Now is the time to stock up on apples! But what to do with that bushel once you get it home? Here are a few tricks for freezing apples, and some recipes to use them in! This is perfect information now that the weather is starting to get a little cooler in the evenings, and Summer slowly turns to Autumn. I love Autumn...especially the smells. My favorite is apple pie baking in the oven!
You can find them on sale, many times in large bags. Maybe you have an apple tree in your yard, or a family member/friend who does. In any event, if your family can’t consume them before they go bad, here are some tips:
- To freeze apples cut them up into slices and lie them on a cookie sheet. Set them in the freezer to flash freeze them. Once frozen, place into freezer bags and mark with the date and place into your freezer.
- To keep apples from turning brown, dip them in apple juice prior to freezing.
- If you want to freeze apples, keep in mind that they will no longer be fit for eating raw – so freeze those you plan on using for baking only.
